Life as an Impressionist Artist in 1880s Montmartre Smartphone App Walking Tour
Paris, France
You are living the life of a bohemian artist in Montmartre in the 1880s. You discover what it means to starve for your art, you live amongst the vagabonds, gypsies, rag pickers, thieves & ladies of the night who populate this poorest corner of Paris.
The area’s cheap living conditions are ideal for starving artists such as yourself. You live in a ramshackle hut, painting by day and visiting the cabarets by night. Montmartre has become the city’s headquarters for decadence & vice, where the wealthy go “slumming”. In the cabarets and dance halls of Montmartre, you meet the disreputable “working girls” who dance the cancan while searching for clients. But you also frequent the numerous artistic cabarets, which cater to the bohemian lifestyle of the penniless artists & poets of the neighborhood, places where the artists gather to discuss art, drinking late into the night.
No other corner of the world can boast having as many artists as Montmartre. Come discover their world, their lives, their loves, and their work … and live like one.
Note: If you are doing this walking tour in the winter, we highly recommend starting at nightfall. This part of the city is charmingly lit with street lights that cast a soft, romantic glow over Montmartre. It is a rare & romantic experience!
