Dashing, brilliant and controversial, the artist, Tom Thomson, paved a unique path in Canadian art and folklore. Considered the most influential Canadian artist of the 20th century, Tom Thomson was deeply connected to Huntsville and to Algonquin Park. Despite the fact that he was an avid outdoorsman and canoeist as well as a competent swimmer, his death at the age of only 39 in Canoe Lake in 1917 was originally considered to be due to an accidental drowning. Confusion and mystery has shrouded his death ever since.
